If you’ve ever walked into CVS to do some shopping, you notice immediately that you’re not at a typical drugstore. As you walk in, any CVS employee will greet you with a “hello” and a “how may I help you?” If you respond with a “no thank you,” they tell you “let me know if you change you mind and I’ll be glad to help you.” If you ask for their help while you do your shopping, they are at the ready.
This has always been my experience at every CVS I shop, in both NYC and New Jersey. Regardless of how big or small, or how empty or busy the store is, someone will always ask you if you need help.
The Shopping Experience
As a consumer, walking into a store to shop and being greeted this way, is one of the most pleasant aspects of the whole experience.
It makes you feel welcomed, important, and it makes you feel like you’re not throwing your money away at a store whose staff could care less if you’re there or not. Most importantly, it keeps you coming back, which proves that a little TLC goes a very long way.
Pricing and Coupons
CVS has very competitive pricing and amazing sales. Their “ExtraCare” rewards program is one of the best I have used. Yes, the extra long receipt you get after you check out is a bit annoying, however, having a bunch of coupons you can use on your next trip gives you something to look forward to.
In addition to the coupons included in ExtraCare program, you can also join the “Beauty Club” which gives you a $5.00 reward for every $50.00 you spend on qualifying beauty items. I know $5.00 may not seem like much, but makeup is not cheap even at the drugstore, so every little discount helps.
Shopping with the CVS App
The shining star of the entire CVS experience in my opinion, is their iPhone app. The App is one of the most complete apps out there and I can’t say enough good things about it. I can’t speak to the Android app because I have never used it or know anyone who has. Below is an abridged list of the things you can do on it:
- Shop for regular drug store items
- Refill your prescription
- Use your “ExtraCare” points and pay from your phone
- View their weekly Ad
- Set reminders for taking your medication
- Order ahead and pick up at store (curbside: at participating stores)
- Look up all of your “ExtraCare” deals and rewards
- Order photos from your phone or Facebook and pick them up same day at participating stores (not all stores have a photo lab onsite)
- Send reward points from your phone to your card for use in store.
CVS also offers self-checkout and a scanner so that you can scan your ExtraCare card and print your coupons in case you forgot to bring them to the store. They really have thought of everything!
If you have a favorite drugstore and you have never shopped at CVS, try walking in one day as you’re passing by and give it a try. You may end up finding a new favorite.
